Product History
When did these crafts start to craft?:400 years ago / 1600AD / Edo period in Japan
Kyo-yuzen originated with Miyazaki Yuzenzai, a fan painter (a craftsman who paints pictures on fans) who was active in Kyoto. During the Edo period (1603-1868), a law was issued prohibiting extravagance and calling on people to be thrifty. As a result, extravagant kimonos with gilding, tie-dyeing, embroidery, etc. were banned. However, it developed "Kyo-yuzen" a colorful and beautiful dyed kimono, which was a cutting-edge fashion that attracted the attention of the masses.

Craftsman Profile
KYOYUZEN KIKI:
KYOYUZEN KIKI is a contemporary brand born from the hands of Kyoto’s master dyers—artisans who hold a profound respect for heritage while embracing a vision for the modern world.
Among Japan’s three premier Yuzen dyeing techniques, Kyoyuzen is the oldest and most prestigious, originating in Kyoto during the Genroku era (1688–1704). At Fuji Senko, we specialize in "Hikizome" (brush dyeing), a pivotal stage in the intricate Kyoyuzen process that requires decades of mastery to perfect.
Our artisans do not simply preserve the past; they breathe new life into centuries-old traditions, creating timeless pieces that resonate with today's lifestyle.

Craftsman Passion
"True beauty is not manufactured; it is cultivated through time and devotion."
At the heart of KYOYUZEN KIKI lies the unwavering spirit of our master dyers. For us, "Hikizome" is far more than a technical process—it is a silent dialogue between the artisan, the silk, and the dye. Each brushstroke is guided by decades of intuition, capturing the subtle nuances of light and shadow that no machine could ever replicate.
Our passion is fueled by a dual mission: to honor the legacy of the Genroku era masters and to ensure that the elegance of Kyoyuzen remains vibrant for generations to come. We do not just dye fabric; we infuse every fiber with the quiet pride and meticulous care that defines the Kyoto spirit.
