Product History
When did these crafts start to craft?:1300 years ago / 700AD / Yamato period in Japan
Wind chimes are said to have been introduced to Japan along with Buddhism. At that time in Japan, it was believed that strong winds brought epidemics and other disasters. Wind chimes were hung at the four corners of the eaves of temples as a protection against disasters as the area where the sound could be heard was considered a sacred space. In the Edo period (1603-1867), glass wind chimes were also made as a result of trade with the West and the introduction of glass culture.
Craftsman Story
Craftsman Profile
Tsugihiro Kan / Kawachi Fuurin
He began making wind chimes in 2000 after learning how to make them from the daughter of a glass artisan. While he crafts the wind chimes, he always pay attention that people can feel more familiar with the beautiful sound that play with the wind. The materials are made by collecting empty bottles of cosmetics, whiskey, etc. from local residents and melting them down. The unevenness of the glass gives them different tones!
Craftsman Passion
"Glass wind chimes makes the sound that heals the heart."
He believes that wind chimes can creat not only the beautiful sound, but also beautifying society as a whole by using discarded glass bottles and other materials.
