General Product Information

This glass is an original series of the Glass Atelier RAU which is made of thick glass fabric with a heavy weight. The sword-like cutting deeply engraved on the side and the U-shaped digging, which is a characteristic of Tenma faceting, create an artistic gem that reveals a magnificent two-color gradation.The beautifully shining Tenma kiriko cut glass, like a jewel, will never bore you.
Why don't you incorporate Tenma Kiriko into your daily life?

Red crystal, a material containing 24% to 25% lead oxide, is used.
It is heavy and has excellent transparency and luster due to an increase in the refractive index of light. Glasses, that is cut to take advantage of these characteristics, are treated as top grade products.

・Shining like a kaleidoscope
At first glance, Tenma kiriko cut glass seems simple. The characteristics of this glass appear when a drink is poured into it.
When water is poured into the glass, the shaved part on the side becomes like a concave lens, reflecting the pattern on the bottom, and the reflection of the water makes it sparkle.
The kaleidoscope-like luster of the pattern gradually rising from the bottom as light refracts off of it when a drink is poured into it, and the cornerless cutting that fits comfortably in the hand, make this a truly artistic piece that is something beautiful both for appreciation and for daily use.

 Product History

When did these crafts start to craft?：23 years ago / 2000AD / Heisei period in Japan

In the Tenma area, glass manufacturing began in the middle of the Edo period (1603-1867) and factories were built one after another.
As time went by, factories gradually ceased to operate, and the only one that remained was Ura Glass Works (today's Glass Atelier RAU), which had been producing various glass products since its establishment in 1933. After repeated trial and error in an effort to preserve glass in Osaka, they invented "Tenma kiriko cut glass" in 2000, which is unique to Osaka and different from conventional faceting.

Edo kiriko cut glass and Satsuma kiriko cut glass are characterized by sharp and regular patterns using a V-shaped blade, while Tenma kiriko cut glass is sharpened with a U-shaped blade and polished by hand, which is a time-consuming process that produces a softer look and a simple yet beautiful finish.

There are some cases that only less than 10% of selling price is given to craftsman. We promise with our customer / craftsman that we offer the fair trade with craftsmen in our contract!
