Sanada-himo was used for samurai armor and fighting tools. In fact, Sanada-himo was used for Yukimura Sanada's armor (Very famous military commander). This is an artwork created using Sanada-himo, which has a long history.

When did these crafts start to craft?：500 years ago / 1500AD / Sengoku period in Japan

Sanada-himo has been used as both a martial art tool and a tool for daily life because of its durability. When an enemy cut at samurai with a sword, the cord attached to the sheath would catch the enemy's sword, and the cord would twist around the enemy's neck, taking away the enemy's sword or tightening the enemy's neck. Sanada-himo was also used for the hachimaki-like cord that the ninja wore around their heads.

The 15th generation of Sanadahimo Enami has been making Sanadahimo cords in Kyoto for over 500 years. It is the only store specializing in hand-woven Sanada-himo, which also makes its necklaces and bracelets that match the modern age. Ancestors on the father's side were in charge of organizing ninja, and started making Sanadahimo for them as a winter job. His ancestor on his mother's side was Sen no Rikyu.

Today, Sanada-himo is mainly used for paulownia boxes for tea ceremony utensils and ceramics, but it can also be used for luggage strings, sandals, accessories, and even art, making the uses of Sanada-himo diverse. I have discovered the potential of Sanada-himo and is making an effort to pass on the possibilities of Sanada-himo to future generations through lectures and other events.

There are some cases that only less than 10% of selling price is given to craftsman. We promise with our customer / craftsman that we offer the fair trade with craftsmen in our contract!
