Product History
When did these crafts start to craft?：600 years ago / 1400AD / Muromachi period in Japan
Wajima-nuri is a type of lacquerware made in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It is said that the process was almost the same as the current process during the mid-Edo period (1716-1736). Although it was mostly used for weddings and funerals, it has come to have artistic significance in modern times since its designation as a national traditional craft in 1975. It is known as a significant presence in the world of lacquerware in Japan.

The fifth generation of the family was born in Wajima, Noto, where the family business of manufacturing Wajima-nuri lacquerware has been in existence for about 100 years. We manufacture and sell high-end Wajima lacquerware using authentic Wajima-nuri techniques. We also offer made to order request and repair services that take advantage of the good qualities of Wajima-nuri, and we still carry on the traditional techniques.

I have been familiar with lacquerware since I was a child and have interacted with highly skilled craftsmen. Income for Craftsman: Craftsman get only less than 10% of selling price?
As written above, craftsman have not controlled last phase of sales channel that resulting in selling price is set by third-party without craftsman’s recognition. There are some cases that only less than 10% of selling price is given to craftsman. We promise with our customer / craftsman that we offer the fair trade with craftsmen in our contract!
