Product Story
General Product Information
This is a professional-grade watering can used by bonsai artists. It is designed specifically for bonsai, with a handle that maintains balance even when at maximum capacity, allowing for large and precise watering. The copper watering can enhances plant growth through the antibacterial properties of copper, making water less prone to spoilage and benefiting plants with the effects of dissolved copper ions. A mesh filter is attached to the spout to prevent leaves and debris from entering when drawing room-temperature water from containers like rainwater jars. Extending the length of the watering can's spout allows for controlled water pressure, ensuring steady and uniform watering.
Caution:
As the watering can is made entirely of metal, it is susceptible to dents and scratches if dropped. Please handle with care when removing from the box or bag and during use.
*This product is basically made-to-order. Please allow 1-3 months from order to shipment.
Product History
When did these crafts start to craft?:1400 years ago / 600AD / Asuka period in Japan
Watering can is mainly used as a bonsai tool.
Bonsai is a centuries-old art form that originated in ancient China before being refined in Japan. Initially part of the Chinese tradition of penjing, which creates miniature landscapes, bonsai focuses on growing single miniature trees. The practice symbolizes harmony and balance, capturing the essence of nature in a small pot. Bonsai arrived in Japan around the 6th century through Zen Buddhism, where it evolved into its current form, emphasizing simplicity and elegance.
In Japan, bonsai became a deep cultural practice, reflecting ideals of beauty, patience, and harmony with nature. Though it started as an elite hobby, it eventually spread across all social levels. The Western world discovered bonsai in the late 19th century, leading to its global popularity. Today, bonsai is a worldwide hobby, appreciated for its beauty and the skill it requires. It represents a blend of tradition and personal expression, requiring careful cultivation and shaping over years. Bonsai enthusiasts engage in this art for the joy and challenge it brings, fostering a unique connection with nature on a miniature scale.
Craftsman Story
Craftsman Profile
Yoichi Negishi / Negishi Industry
Negishi Industry was founded in 1944 by a first-generation roofing craftsman who specialized in shrine and temple roofs. He established the company to produce horticultural metal goods using tinplate. In 1966, the second generation introduced the idea of applying techniques from Sendai to create copper, brass, and stainless steel watering cans, specifically designed for bonsai. He also proposed these to bonsai associations. Since then, Negishi Industry has specialized exclusively in the production of watering cans, dedicating itself to perfecting this craft.
Craftsman Passion
"We invigorate all plants with our watering cans, inheriting and preserving traditional craftsmanship."
Copper watering cans feature the antibacterial properties of copper, which make the water less susceptible to spoilage. The effect of copper ions dissolved in the water also promotes the growth of moss on bonsai. To prevent leaves and debris from entering while drawing room-temperature water from containers like rainwater jars, a mesh filter is attached to the spout. By extending the length of the watering can's spout, we provide a watering can that allows for controlled water pressure, ensuring a steady and uniform watering experience.
