Product History
When did these crafts start to craft?:400 years ago / 1600AD / Edo period in Japan
The first Kutani-ware kiln was established in the early Edo period (1600s), but was forced to close due to suspicion of smuggled goods. However, the pieces produced at that time regained popularity again with their gorgeous colors and distinctive designs. Kutani-ware made during this period is called "Ko-Kutani" and is still sold today at very high prices as vintage pieces. One hundred years later, the Kutani-ware market was once again booming, and various styles of Kutani-ware were created up to the present day.
