General Product Information

It has a round shape like a wine glass to prevent aroma from escaping and has practicality when receiving wine.
Many people like this rainbow of colors, which is expressed by using five different colors of colored glass.

The shape of each piece is slightly different because it is handmade by blowing into the air and forming it into a sphere, which is where the handmade quality comes through.
The surface is intentionally made uneven to give the colors a more expressive appearance and to enhance the handmade texture.

 Product History

When did these crafts start to craft?：200 years ago / 1800AD / Edo period in Japan

It is said that the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research was established by Naomasa Nabeshima, the 10th lord of the Saga Domain, on the banks of the Tabuse River in 1852.

 The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research was originally a place where daily necessities (goldfish bowls, medicine bottles, sake bottles, etc.) and tools necessary for academic research laboratories were made, and a glass kiln, which was rare at that time, was built to produce beakers and flasks mainly for scientific experiments.

Later, with the opening of the country and the Meiji Restoration, the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, which had begun making lamps and tableware, became a private company,

Genichiro Soejima, who became independent from there, founded Soejima Glass Studio in 1903.
Today, it is the only workshop that produces Hizen Bidoro.

Income for Craftsman: Craftsman get only less than 10% of selling price?

As written above, craftsman have not controlled last phase of sales channel that resulting in selling price is set by third-party without craftsman’s recognition. There are some cases that only less than 10% of selling price is given to craftsman. We promise with our customer / craftsman that we offer the fair trade with craftsmen in our contract!
