When did these crafts start to craft?：1200 years ago / 800AD / Heian period in Japan
With the introduction of Buddhism by the Chinese, recognition of Kyo-hyogu spread throughout Japan. One of the reasons for the spread of hanging scrolls among Kyo-hyogu was the custom of worshipping Buddhist paintings and images after the introduction of Buddhism. In addition, as the appreciation of paintings became more popular, the design of tableware was tailored to add to the beauty of calligraphy and paintings.
Mitsunori Onozawa / Kyohyogu Onozawa
He has been a craftsman in Kyoto, Japan since 1995, making shoji screens, hanging scrolls, and folding screens for use in tea rooms. He used to be a band member and spent his days playing music, but after visiting a relative's Hyogu shop, he became fascinated by the depth of the art of Hyogu and decided to become a craftsman. He focuses on the crafting of art panels, not only traditional ones, but also those that fit in with modern interiors, using his Hyogu techniques.
"Aiming for the standard of the future"
Kyo-Hyogu, which has inherited and preserved traditional beauty within a set of rules and regulations, is now being put into an artistic framework to create "new Hyogu". We hope that this free expression of "Hyogu x Art" will become the standard of Hyogu for the next 100 years.
Received Kyoto Governor's Award
Received the Kyoto Shimbun Award
He has received more awards for their work.
