Product Story
General Product Information
This Hinaga Uchiwa is made with traditional techniques that have been preserved for over 100 years. It is made of white Ise cotton fabric, covered with Ise patterned paper with free design and finished with real dyeing.
You can use it on a hot day or display it in your room as an interior decoration. It will make you become even more fashinable if you carry it with you when you go out. Why not try one of these traditional Japanese fans?
Product History
When did these crafts start to craft?:300 years ago / 1700AD / Edo period in Japan
Because of the large number of travelers who came and went along the Tokaido Highway every day, they became popular as souvenirs in Edo period (1603-1868). Originally, fans came from China, where they were used as ornaments by aristocrats and wealthy people, and to protect them from the wind, dust, and sunlight. It was during the later Edo period (1800s) that these fans came to be used by the general public.
Craftsman Story
Craftsman Profile
Inatoh
The craftsman is the fourth generation of Inatoh, which began manufacturing Hinaga Uchiwa in Mie Prefecture in 1881. He wants to not only protect the family business passed down from his predecessors, but also wants to develop products that appeal to today's consumers, such as fragrant Uchiwa fans.
Craftsman Passion
"As long as we are in business, don't let the Hinaga Uchiwa light go out."
When I was young, I saw the hard work of my predecessors in fan making and thought that it would be easier to make money by purchasing and selling the finished uchiwa fans. However, when my predecessor passed away and I took over, I realized that if I stopped making uchiwa, Hinaga Uchiwa would cease to exist. Once it ceased, its history would stop there. I suddelny realized the importance of this.

There are some cases that only less than 10% of selling price is given to craftsman. We promise with our customer / craftsman that we offer the fair trade with craftsmen in our contract!
