General Product Information
This single-flower vase is produced using the "double-layered transparency" technique.
This craft was inspired by the works of "Ogata Kenzan," who was active 400 years ago, the craftsman who produces this vase. This vase has a double-layered structure, with a space between the first and second layers, and is characterized by a depth that allows the viewer to see through to the back in places. The red color expresses passion and fighting spirit. When usingthis vase for interior design, it is effective to use a little bit of the color as an accent. It is especially suitable for gray and white rooms! We invite you to bring the finest works of art into your daily life."
When did these crafts start to craft?：400 years ago / 1600AD / Edo period in Japan
Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware are ceramics produced in Kyoto. The difference between these two is the Kyo-ware refers to the whole ceramics produced in Kyoto, while Kiyomizu-ware refers to the ceramics in Kiyomizu area. In the early Edo period (1600s), main production was tea ceremony utensils. While mechanization has spread to other production centers as time has progressed, Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware is that they are still made by hand. One of the characteristics of Kyoy-ware and Kiyomizu-ware is that many avant-garde artists have emerged, creating a variety of works that cannot be lumped together. There is no set style, and the free style boosted the popularity among the masses.
Shunji Mori / Shunzangama
Kiyomizu-yaki pottery has been produced in Kyoto since 1917 by three generations of craftsmen. Inspired by the ideas of Ogata Kenzan, he adds a modern touch to the "openwork" technique that has been used for 300 years. He specializes in incorporating seasonal scenes unique to Japan, such as cherry blossoms and autumn leave into his vessels.
"If I don't get rewarded, I hope the next generation will"
My father used to take care of many craftsmen in his workshop, and he feels blessed that his father's actions have been rewarded back to him as a son. For this reason, he does not seek reward for himself, but rather wants to do what he can for the younger generation who will take on the future.
