This product is produced by the only craftsman of Tosa Ancient Lacquer. The characteristic of the "rough texture" of these chopsticks makes them last much longer than ordinary lacquered chopsticks and makes it easier to grasp food.
Because these chopsticks can be used every day, using good quality chopsticks will enrich your mind and make you feel luxurious.

MIROKUDO
"Even if I am the last one, I will continue"
Today, I am the only one who can produce Tosa Ancient Lacquerware. In pursuit of the original form of elegant and solid lacquerware, the wood and other materials were carefully examined. No other paints were used and dozens of processes were carried out using high-quality lacquer to complete this product. Strong determination to preserve this craft gives a meaning to my life.
ARTISAN STORY
Mirokudo
In the lacquerware industry, while mass-produced synthetic resin products are becoming more widespread and the division of labor is being promoted, the company is not only pursuing efficiency. They are doing all processes by themselves, preserving the traditional methods that require time and patience to this day.

TOSA KODAI NURI / TOSA LACQUERWARE
About 150 years ago / 1870s / Meiji Period (1868–1912)
Tosa Kodai-nuri is a lacquer tradition from Kochi established in the Meiji period through study of aged lacquer surfaces. Makers built durable layers and controlled polishing to create a subdued texture resembling objects that had already acquired the depth of time.
In Japan, Tosa Kodai-nuri is appreciated for restrained surfaces rather than glittering maki-e. Trays, boxes and tea utensils are common, and the deliberately aged-looking finish works particularly well in contemporary interiors.
Where many lacquer traditions aim for a mirror-like gloss, Kodai-nuri intentionally preserves quieter, less uniform texture. The object can feel old the moment it is completed. In that sense, the craft does something unusual: it designs the visual sensation of time itself.
Individual Differences
As each piece is individually handcrafted, slight variations in color, pattern, shape, and texture may occur. These subtle differences are a natural characteristic of handcrafted works, making each piece truly unique. We hope you will enjoy these individual variations as part of the beauty and character of Japanese craftsmanship.
Production Time
If an item is not currently in stock, it may be made to order by the artisan. As each piece is carefully handcrafted, production may take several months depending on the item and the artisan's schedule. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
