This scarf is carefully dyed one by one using the traditional tie-dyeing technique.
The beautiful design is inspired by stars shining in the night sky.

Tie-dyeing is a general term for a dyeing technique in which a portion of the fabric is tied with thread, sewn or boarded up to prevent dye from entering the area and to dye a pattern.

*Please be careful where you store it, as it is a natural material, and prolonged exposure to light may cause it to fade or discolor.
*Please handle with care as the fabric may tear if rubbed strongly.*Please note that there may be needle holes, scars, small holes, and thread pulls due to the natural material used in the tie-dyeing process.
*The color finish and pattern may vary each time due to hand processing.

*When caring for the item by yourself, please hand-wash in lukewarm water and use a light neutral detergent.

ARTISAN STORY

Takeshi Fukumura / Tie-dye Studio Eshiborian
Tie-dye Studio Eshiborian, established in 1973, is located in the northern part of Kyoto, overlooking Mount Hiei.
One of Tie-dye Studio Eshiborian's craftsmen, Takeshi Fukumura, was born in Kyoto, studied under his father when he was in college, and has received various awards as a tie-dye artisan.
In a land blessed with abundant nature and water, he produces tie-dyed kimonos, obis, and accessories using traditional techniques with careful attention to detail in every step of the process.

SHIBORI ZOME / JAPANESE TIE-DYEING

About 1,300 years ago / 700s / Nara Period (710–794)

Shibori is a family of resist-dyeing techniques in which cloth is tied, stitched, folded or clamped so selected areas remain protected from dye. Examples survive in the eighth-century Shosoin, and many regional traditions later developed. During the Edo period, places such as Arimatsu and Narumi became major centers for patterned yukata cloth.

In Japan, shibori is familiar through the soft edges and puckered textures of summer yukata. Its small irregularities resist perfect industrial replication, and the techniques now extend to scarves, clothing and art textiles as well as kimono.

The design is created less by where dye enters than by where it is prevented from entering. Some methods require tens of thousands of individual ties, and the final pattern cannot be fully seen until everything is unbound. The artisan works by imagining an image that is still hidden inside the cloth.

These subtle differences are a natural characteristic of handcrafted works, making each piece truly unique.
