This work has been reproduced with precision using the techniques of Nishijin brocade.
The wave caps on the screen are made of thick and thin threads in shades of blue to create a powerful and three-dimensional effect.
In the sky, we collaborated with a traditional gold leaf craftsman to express the scene of a storm and splashes of spray from the wave caps.
The sky represents a storm and splashes of spray from the wave caps. The use of real gold thread on the boat gives it a deep, luxurious feel.
The profundity woven by the high-grade materials gives off various luster depending on the angle of view and fascinates those who see it.

 Product History

When did these crafts start to craft?：1200 years ago / 800AD / Heian period in Japan

The origins of Nishijin textiles date back to the 5th and 6th centuries. It is said that foreigners settled in Kyoto and introduced silkworm and silk weaving techniques, giving birth to today's Nishijin textiles. Nishijin is a Japanese word meaning "west camp" and the name Nishijin-ori was given because the place where the artisans settled was just where west side military was located during the wars of that era.

Before the war, my grandfather began weaving by handloom here in Nishijin, and today we operate five power looms.
The weaving business, passed down through three generations, was incorporated as Origoshi Co., Ltd. in 2006, and we have been involved in obi fabric production for over 80 years.
Our skilled craftsmen, each with 30 to 50 years of experience, apply their time-honored techniques and a deep commitment to using only the finest materials to continue the tradition of Nishijin weaving.

Income for Craftsman: Craftsman get only less than 10% of selling price?

As written above, craftsman have not controlled last phase of sales channel that resulting in selling price is set by third-party without craftsman’s recognition. There are some cases that only less than 10% of selling price is given to craftsman. We promise with our customer / craftsman that we offer the fair trade with craftsmen in our contract!
