General Product Information

These mini tatami mats are ideal for decorating things.
To ensure that decorative tatami can be enjoyed over a long period of time, Japanese paper is made into strings and the surface is treated with resin so that it does not discolor easily in sunlight, etc. and repels water. It is also recommended for coasters.

The edges of the tatami are made of local Nishijin gold brocade, and the backing is made of fusuma paper.

When did these crafts start to craft?：1200 years ago / 800AD / Heian period in Japan

Tatami was treated as a sign of power by the nobility. The thickness of the tatami, the color of the edges, and the pattern differed depending on the class of the person using it. Later, with the development of the tea ceremony, tatami spread to the masses and became popular. Such historical tatami can be found in shrines, temples, and various buildings throughout entire Japan land.

As written above, craftsman have not controlled last phase of sales channel that resulting in selling price is set by third-party without craftsman’s recognition. There are some cases that only less than 10% of selling price is given to craftsman. We promise with our customer / craftsman that we offer the fair trade with craftsmen in our contract!
