General Product Information

These cool bamboo bags are handmade one by one by craftsmen.
It is made of a combination of white bamboo and tiger bamboo and finished with a scaly weave. The handle is made of root bend bamboo. The inside bag is not fixed, so it can be replaced according to fashion.
It can be used in both Japanese and Western clothing for a variety of occasions.

Characteristics of Bamboo
Bamboo is a material with strong strength and elasticity, and has excellent bending and compression strength, making it resistant to deformation and long-lasting.
As it is used for a long time, bamboo also changes its color and becomes a vivid candy color, so you can use it while enjoying the changes over time!

When did these crafts start to craft?：800 years ago / 1200AD / Kamakura period in Japan

During the Heian period (794-1185), bamboo was widely used for building materials, weapons for hunting, and tools for farming and fishing. In the Edo period (1603-1868), bamboo craftsmen worked hard to deliver their works to the shoguns (Conqueror of Japan). Later, craftsmen who made vases for flower arrangement and ladles for the tea ceremony came to live in Kyoto, and the bamboo crafts in Kyoto flourished.

Nishikawa
Founded in Kyoto in 1831. The company has been in business for 193 years.
During the second generation, the company devised and popularized the "go-noren" (bamboo blind), which had been used only by the imperial court and warrior class, so that it could be used by the general public.
Bamboo crafts in Kyoto, which until then consisted mostly of daily utensils such as colanders, were introduced to the culture of the tea ceremony and flower arrangement, and together with "SUDARE," laid the foundation for the present Kyoto bamboo crafts.

Income for Craftsman: Craftsman get only less than 10% of selling price?

As written above, craftsman have not controlled last phase of sales channel that resulting in selling price is set by third-party without craftsman’s recognition. There are some cases that only less than 10% of selling price is given to craftsman. We promise with our customer / craftsman that we offer the fair trade with craftsmen in our contract!
