When did these crafts start to craft?：400 years ago / 1600AD / Edo period in Japan
Kyo-yuzen originated with Miyazaki Yuzenzai, a fan painter (a craftsman who paints pictures on fans) who was active in Kyoto. During the Edo period (1603-1868), a law was issued prohibiting extravagance and calling on people to be thrifty. As a result, extravagant kimonos with gilding, tie-dyeing, embroidery, etc. were banned. However, it developed "Kyo-yuzen" a colorful and beautiful dyed kimono, which was a cutting-edge fashion that attracted the attention of the masses.
After graduating from college, she worked for a general company, and after retiring, she entered the world of traditional crafts.
She is an artist who creates traditional crafts such as Nishijin brocade, Kyo-yaki, and Kyo-yuzen from a single design. She puts her heart and soul into each of her hand-painted works, valuing the irregularity and unevenness of hand-painting.
"Preventing beautiful craftsmanship to the future".
I create my works by carefully expressing nature, soothing scenes, and beautiful traditional techniques in a variety of traditional Japanese crafts.
I put my heart and soul into each and every piece I make so that people from all walks of life can appreciate the beauty of traditional crafts.
