Product Description : Why is it so EXPENSIVE?
General Product Information
The innovative design, which has never been seen in Tenma kiriko cut glass before, was created using the U-shaped carving technique, which is a characteristic of Tenma faceted glass.
This glass design was inspired by the image of a wind blowing and soaring. The asymmetrical design allows you to enjoy two different reflections when you pour your beverage. The diagonally cut line with a rising right shoulder is highly regarded as an auspicious gift.
The beautifully shining Tenma kiriko cut glass, like a jewel, will never bore you. Why don't you incorporate Tenma Kiriko into your daily life?
Red crystal, a material containing 24% to 25% lead oxide, is used.
It is heavy and has excellent transparency and luster due to an increase in the refractive index of light. Glasses, that is cut to take advantage of these characteristics, are treated as top grade products.
・Shining like a kaleidoscope
At first glance, Tenma kiriko cut glass seems simple. The characteristics of this glass appear when a drink is poured into it.
When water is poured into the glass, the shaved part on the side becomes like a concave lens, reflecting the pattern on the bottom, and the reflection of the water makes it sparkle.
The kaleidoscope-like luster of the pattern gradually rising from the bottom as light refracts off of it when a drink is poured into it, and the cornerless cutting that fits comfortably in the hand, make this a truly artistic piece that is something beautiful both for appreciation and for daily use.
When did these crafts start to craft?：23 years ago / 2000AD / Heisei period in Japan
In the Tenma area, glass manufacturing began in the middle of the Edo period (1603-1867) and factories were built one after another.
As time went by, factories gradually ceased to operate, and the only one that remained was Ura Glass Works (today's Glass Atelier RAU), which had been producing various glass products since its establishment in 1933. After repeated trial and error in an effort to preserve glass in Osaka, they invented "Tenma kiriko cut glass" in 2000, which is unique to Osaka and different from conventional faceting.
・Simple yet beautiful Tenma kiriko cut glass
Edo kiriko cut glass and Satsuma kiriko cut glass are characterized by sharp and regular patterns using a V-shaped blade, while Tenma kiriko cut glass is sharpened with a U-shaped blade and polished by hand, which is a time-consuming process that produces a softer look and a simple yet beautiful finish.
Glass Atelier RAU
A glass studio established in 1933, the company has produced numerous table glasses, and in 2000 created its original brand of "Tenma kiriko cut glass" using its own unique technique.
We produce uniquely beautiful faceting using traditional techniques.
"Beauty for appreciation" and "Beauty for use"
While preserving traditional techniques, Tenma kiriko cut glass is evolving day by day by actively adopting new and superior techniques.
Tenma kiriko cut glass, created with advanced techniques and new ideas, is as beautiful as a jewel, shining like a kaleidoscope, and never boring to look at.
