General Product Information

A soy sauce jug that does not drip.
This soy sauce jug is made by the traditional Edo glass manufacturing method.
The stopper and the body are carefully rubbed together one by one by the hands of craftsmen.

The secret is in the “mortar opening”
The capillary action of the tightly grated lips allows any liquid residue that comes out through the stopper to be returned to the main body.

The sticker is attached, but can be easily removed.

 Product History

When did these crafts start to craft?:200 years ago / 1800AD / Edo period in Japan

The history of glass making in Japan dates back to the Yayoi period. The technique introduced from the continent was used to make kagatama (glass beads) and tubular beads at that time, but the technique died out after the Middle Ages. It was not until the Edo period (1603-1867) that glassware reappeared in Japanese history.

Glassware was introduced to Nagasaki from Portugal, the Netherlands, and other countries, and was produced domestically under the name “biidoro. Since the technique resembled Chinese techniques rather than European origin, it is believed that the technique itself may have been introduced from China. The technique was eventually introduced to Osaka, Kyoto, and Edo.

According to records, glass was first made in Edo around 1711. It is written in an essay collection titled “Ureshiyu Shoran” that a craftsman named Gennojo blew glass. In addition, the geographical journal of Edo, “Takehoe Nenpyo” (1751-1764), also mentions that glass was made in the city.

Because this is an industry that is difficult to maintain, we value each and every one of our craftsmen and focus on passing on their skills on a daily basis to deliver our products to our customers.
