Product Story

General Product Information

The Ichimatsu pattern is a traditional Japanese motif consisting of alternating squares or rectangles in different colors, resembling a checkerboard.

This casual T-shirt design brings a contemporary twist to this classic pattern by combining it with elegant Nishijin-ori textiles in a patchwork style. The result is a subtle expression of wabi-sabi—the refined beauty found in imperfection and simplicity.

About the Design
Our concept embraces the coexistence of two opposing elements: elegance and aggression. By breaking away from traditional compositions and forms, the design is a fusion of contemporary culture and time-honored craftsmanship.

In Nishijin textile design, intricate patterns are expressed through the interplay of warp and weft. With a sculptural texture, we aim to create textiles that transcend the boundaries of material itself—this is the philosophy that drives our work.

 Product History

When did these crafts start to craft?:1200 years ago / 800AD / Heian period in Japan

The origins of Nishijin textiles date back to the 5th and 6th centuries. It is said that foreigners settled in Kyoto and introduced silkworm and silk weaving techniques, giving birth to today's Nishijin textiles. Nishijin is a Japanese word meaning "west camp" and the name Nishijin-ori was given because the place where the artisans settled was just where west side military was located during the wars of that era.

Craftsman Story

Craftsman Profile

N's 1182 / Yusuke Maeda
Coexistence of opposing factors; elegant and aggressive.
The design concept, which breaks with traditional compositions and molds, is created through a fusion of all modern cultures and traditional craftsmanship. By creating textures that resemble sculptures, we create textiles based on the philosophy of "going beyond the category of materials".

Craftsman Passion

"An antithesis to mass-produced replicas"

Yusuke Maeda, designer of N's 1182, was born in Kyoto, a city renowned for its rich tradition of craftsmanship. In this environment, products are carefully crafted one by one using time-honored techniques. Faced with the challenges of today’s mass production and overconsumption, Maeda chooses to pursue genuine value over imitation. His design and process are rooted in creating authenticity—not replicas.

By rethinking conventional manufacturing and sales systems, his goal is to craft original, high-quality pieces based on bold and innovative concepts. This philosophy serves as an antithesis to mass production and consumption, forming the foundation of the brand’s identity.
