These Japanese Sandals are handmade one by one by craftsmen.
This is the standard two-tooth shape that is the basis of Japanese Sandals. This is a masterpiece filled with craftsmanship, making the most of the brush marks created by hand-painting with real urushi lacquer.

In the 1950s, more than 90% of households in Japan had Japanese sandals, which were not only worn with summer yukata but were also the most common everyday footwear.

Please handle Japanese sandals with care as they are lightweight and easily scratched.

Be careful when handling them, as they can be scratched if your nails come into contact with them.
Japanese sandals are sensitive to moisture and water. If they get wet, please dry them in the shade, and gently soften the straps by hand.
Even if the sponge rubber sole wears out and the wooden base becomes worn, you can continue wearing them as long as walking is not affected. Unfortunately, we are unable to replace the sponge rubber.
The protective metal fittings on the underside of the sandals (which temporarily protect the area securing the straps) are temporary. Even if they come off, you may continue wearing the sandals without issue.

About the straps:
They are sensitive to water, which may cause color fading or damage.
About lacquered sandals:

The lacquer may chip if subjected to impact.
Color fading or peeling may occur due to changes in temperature and humidity.

GETA / JAPANESE WOODEN SANDALS

About 1,500 years ago / 500s / Kofun–Asuka Period

Wooden footwear resembling geta appears in ancient Japanese archaeological sites and developed as a practical response to wet ground and agricultural work. During the Edo period, urban culture produced many forms, heights and decorative straps for rain, formal wear and everyday use.

Geta are no longer common daily footwear, but they remain strongly associated with yukata, summer festivals and hot-spring towns. Their light paulownia wood, the sound of wood striking pavement and the sensation of wearing them barefoot are deeply connected with Japanese memories of summer.

The raised “teeth” are not merely stylistic. They lift the feet above mud and rainwater and help protect the hem of a kimono. Many traditional pairs also have no fixed left and right shoe, allowing wear to be distributed more evenly—a quietly ingenious piece of practical design.
