General Product Information

These Japanese Sandals are handmade one by one by craftsmen.
They have long been favored as chic Japanese Sandals.

In the 1950s, more than 90% of households in Japan had Japanese sandals, which were not only worn with summer yukata but were also the most common everyday footwear.

Please handle Japanese sandals with care as they are lightweight and easily scratched.

Be careful when handling them, as they can be scratched if your nails come into contact with them.
Japanese sandals are sensitive to moisture and water. If they get wet, please dry them in the shade, and gently soften the straps by hand.
Even if the sponge rubber sole wears out and the wooden base becomes worn, you can continue wearing them as long as walking is not affected. Unfortunately, we are unable to replace the sponge rubber.
The protective metal fittings on the underside of the sandals (which temporarily protect the area securing the straps) are temporary. Even if they come off, you may continue wearing the sandals without issue.

About the straps:
They are sensitive to water, which may cause color fading or damage.
About lacquered sandals:

The lacquer may chip if subjected to impact.
Color fading or peeling may occur due to changes in temperature and humidity.

 Product History

When did these crafts start to craft?:1800 years ago / 200AD / Yayoi period in Japan

Japanese sandals, known as Geta, are a traditional form of footwear unique to Japan, with a long history dating back as far as the 2nd century.
In the 1950s, more than 90% of households in Japan had Geta, and they were not only worn with summer yukata but also as the most common everyday footwear.
At that time, most roads in Japan were unpaved, so when it rained, they would quickly turn into muddy paths.
In such conditions, Geta were highly valued because they allowed people to walk without splashing mud and dirtying their clothes.
There were also many Geta shops all over Japan at the time. However, the shape and use of Geta differed by region. For example, there were snow Geta in the Tohoku and Hokkaido regions, and rain-and-snow Geta in the Hokuriku region.
In the Kansai region, it was customary to include men’s Geta, everyday Geta, yukata Geta, and rain Geta as part of a bride’s dowry.
Nowadays, as lifestyles and road conditions have changed, the custom of wearing Geta has gradually faded.
